War, Education, and Ukrainian Student Activism

A conversation with Kyrylo Demchenko, Ukrainian Youth Delegate to the UN.

About the Event

Kyrylo Demchenko will provide his perspective on the challenges faced by students and educational institutions in Ukraine during the war and the resilience of Ukrainian youth in their pursuit of education. He will provide insight into changes within the Ukrainian educational system and student initiatives aimed at rebuilding Ukraine and striving for a brighter future. Kyrylo will discuss a shifting consciousness and evolving understanding of education's purpose, and the sacrifices Ukrainian students make every day to access education during the ongoing war. This meeting will be held under Chatham House Rule and will not be recorded or streamed online.

About the Speaker

Since 2022, Kyrylo Demchenko has been a Youth Delegate of Ukraine to the UN. He received his BA in History and Archeology from the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy” in 2022 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree there, in the same field. He engages in youth activism inside and outside of the university and has served in the Armed forces of Ukraine since February 24, 2022.
