#### [Dr. Oleksandra Tarkhanova](https://ces.fas.harvard.edu/people/oleksandra-tarkhanova), Research Associate at the University of St. Gallen and Visiting Scholar at the Center for European Studies at Harvard, presents her current research. Chaired by [Dr. Emily Channell-Justice](https://www.huri.harvard.edu/people/emily-channell-justice), Director of HURI's Temerty Contemporary Ukraine Program.

The [New Research on Europe Seminar](https://ces.fas.harvard.edu/study-groups/new-research-on-europe-seminar-ces-harvard?token=Q4w04_Ls5aG0-CfN2jeQiEAR9JGpu8kP) serves as a weekly forum in which Visiting Scholars at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) present their work-in-progress. This seminar encourages discussions across disciplinary as well as national boundaries. After each presentation, there is ample time for critique and feedback.

## About the Speaker

[Oleksandra Tarkhanova](https://www.unisg.ch/en/university/about-us/organisation/detail/person-id/3f4eb6a2-2249-46f5-85b8-f796e72ea127/) is a research associate at University of St. Gallen, where she leads a team of researchers analyzing how sovereignty crises reshape citizenship relations and practices. Her research interests revolve around citizenship relations, forced displacement, welfare and gender politics, with a particular focus on the war and occupation in Ukraine.

At the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES), Tarkhanova will explore how individuals construct citizenship constellations through attachments, entitlements, and documentation, negotiating relationships with both the Ukrainian state and the Russian occupation regime.

Tarkhanova holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Bielefeld University, an M.A. in gender studies, and a B.A. in sociology.
