The Kyiv City State Archive was established in 1962 as a permanent repository for all materials relating to the history of the city of Kyiv from the earliest times to the present. It was founded on the basis of those fonds designated for permanent preservation from the Soviet period that had previously been housed in the earlier temporary city archival repository. It also received fonds of municipal institutions from the State Archive of Kyiv Oblast (DAKO; then KODA) and from the Central State Historical Archive UkrSSR (TsDIAK). The archive assumed its present name in 1980.

Access: All fonds are open to researchers. Researchers should present an official letter from their sponsoring institution.
